Authorities, practitioners and researchers should recognize that Syrian refugees and asylum seekers are strongly affected by a broad range of problems. Besides practical problems, they suffer a multitude of psychological problems, and a significant number of them report, among other issues, symptoms of mental health disorders.

Delirium is an underdiagnosed and undermanaged syndrome, with substantial prevalence and potentially deleterious consequences. Despite its frequent use in the management of delirium, the effectiveness of pipamperone has not yet been evaluated.

Tramadol has a triple action all of which are relevant in treating psychic suffering, especially suffering from the feelings of psychic “pain” that can arise from social loss. As it is short acting, has a wide therapeutic range as a weak mu-receptor agonist, has a relatively low risk for inducing neurochemical tolerance, and comparatively low risk for abuse, tramadol needs to be further evaluated for the treatment of depression.
